Panchkhal, June 5
On the occasion of World Environment Day 2026, a tree plantation program was successfully conducted at Bhasme Pakha Community Forest, located in Ward No. 6 of Panchkhal Municipality. The program was organized by the Bhasme Pakha Community Forest User Group with the support of Love Green Nepal. A total of 150 saplings were planted, including 40 Chiuri (Diploknema butyracea), 40 Jackfruit, 10 Bael, 10 Indian Gooseberry (Amla), 10 Guava, 10 Bay Leaf, 10 Java Plum (Jamun), 10 Pomegranate, and 10 Kalki saplings.
The program was organized in line with the international theme of World Environment Day 2026: “Inspired by Nature. For Climate. For Our Future.”
The program began with the participation of 20 students and one teacher from Golden Future Secondary School, Panchkhal, who gathered at Love Green Nepal’s office in Bakhreldihi. Love Green Nepal staff provided an orientation on the significance of World Environment Day, the importance of environmental conservation, and the role of tree planting in addressing climate and environmental challenges. Following the orientation, the participants carried the saplings and walked approximately one kilometer to the plantation site.
Upon reaching the site, the students joined around 60 members of the Community Forest User Group who had gathered for the event. Before the plantation activity commenced, Mr. Ramesh Tripathi, Secretary of the Community Forest User Committee, explained that the community had requested Love Green Nepal to provide fruit-bearing and multipurpose tree species with the aim of transforming the forest into a sustainable income-generating resource in the future. He also expressed the commitment of the forest users to protect the saplings through proper care, watering, and maintenance.
Similarly, Mr. Narayan Prasad Geywali, Executive Director of Love Green Nepal, stated that the tree plantation initiative launched on World Environment Day would be continued in the coming years and that additional saplings would be provided to plant in vacant areas of the forest as needed.
After the completion of the plantation activity, Mr. Bimal Dulal, Liaison Officer of Love Green Japan, facilitated a discussion and interactive session with the students. The session focused on the lessons learned from the day’s activities, the role of youth in environmental conservation, and the long-term benefits of tree planting.
The program is expected to contribute significantly to environmental conservation, the promotion of biodiversity, and the sustainable management of community forests while encouraging greater community participation in climate action and ecological restoration efforts.
