Project Location:
Province: Bagmati
District: Kavreplanchok
Municipality: Panchkhal Municipality
Ward Nos: 2 & 4
Community Forests: Bokse and Laukini Ghyangle Community Forests

Project Duration:
Commencement: August 20, 2025
Completion: August 19, 2026
Total Duration: 12 Months

Sector: Environment Conservation
Sub-Sector: Community Forest Management

Project Background & Rationale

Over the past years, many trees in Panchkhal Municipality have been cut down for post-earthquake reconstruction, agricultural road expansion, and household use, yet no systematic tree plantation has taken place to replace these losses. This has led to degradation of forest aesthetics and weakened natural resilience, potentially increasing flood risk and other disasters.

At the same time, local awareness and prioritization of community forest management have declined, contributing to more frequent wildfires and increasing wildlife encroachment that damage farmers’ crops. There are currently no structured environmental education or community awareness programs in place to address these issues.

Most schoolchildren lack understanding of the ecological, economic, and cultural significance of community forests, their biodiversity, and environmental benefits. Recognizing these gaps, the Love Green Nepal (LGN) project supports the establishment of dedicated tree zones within community forests where students can learn about native tree species and develop positive attitudes toward conservation and sustainable forest stewardship.

 Project Objectives

Overall Objective:
The overall objective of the project is to promote greenery in Panchkhal Municipality and support forest user groups in the effective management of community forests.

Specific Objectives:

i. To plant indigenous, native, medicinal, and health-beneficial plant seedlings in the Bokseko Community Forest and Laukeni Ghyangele Community Forests and distribute additional seedlings to local schools and other organization.

ii. To raise awareness among beneficiaries and schoolchildren, and to promote natural beautification through tree plantation activities.

iii. To enhance the leadership capacity of user group members and strengthen the institutional capacity of forest user groups.

 Major Activities

A. Laukeni Ghyangle Community Forest (Ward No. 2)

  • Vegetation survey and cleaning of invasive bushes and weeds
  • Excavation of pits for tree seedlings (300 pits)
  • Plantation of 300 grown trees and 250 Nil-Kata plants
  • Soil filling, mulching, and trimming
  • Environment education programs for students and local residents
  • Forest management training (3 days) and compost-making practical training
  • Soil sampling and establishment of irrigation support systems
  • Purchase of forestry tools and equipment
  • Regular meetings with the user committee

B. Bokse Community Forest (Ward No. 4)

  • Excavation of 600 pits and plantation of 600 tree seedlings
  • Soil and mulching work
  • Environment awareness programs and eco-tours for students
  • Fire control seminar and compost-making orientation
  • Development of a dedicated Tree Learning Zone for schools
  • Bio-engineering support with bamboo logs and broom grass for slope and soil protection
  • Technical support and coordination meetings throughout the year

Target Beneficiaries

  • Laukeni Ghyangle CFUG: 209 direct beneficiaries
  • Bokse CFUG: 200 direct beneficiaries
  • Schoolchildren & Local Community: Approximately 110–150 students per community for environment learning programs

 Expected Outcomes

✅A defined and biodiverse tree plantation zone will be established within community forests.
✅ Enhanced green coverand forest healthwill contribute to ecological balance and improved disaster resilience.
Environmental awareness will increase among local residents and schoolchildren.
Community forest management skills will improve through training and capacity-building.
