A. Environment Conservation:
1. Tree Plantation Program:
Love Green Nepal (LGN) established with the slogan of ‘Let’s Green Our Earth’ in 1991 A.D. The main objective is to enhance greenery development and mitigate the environmental problems comprises deforestation, landslides, drying up of natural water sources as well as to enhance the farmer’s income. In initial years, it started from Sankhu area of Kathmandu District. After the successful implementation of this program, LGN selected Panchkhal valley of Kavrepalanchok District of Nepal for the massive tree plantation. Under this program, LGN carried out community based tree plantation campaign and distributes fuel wood, fruits, fodder tree seedlings to the farmers and conducts awareness program.
2. Bio-gas promotion:
Bio-gas helps to reduce rate of deforestation and environmental degradation by providing alternative source of energy. It helps to reduce the carbon dioxide generation and reduces cooking time availing extra hours for village women. It is smokeless and health hazard caused by burning of fuel-wood is highly reduced. Its slurry is used for making good compost fertilizer which is directly contributing to productivity. It is always useful to the farmers. So, Love Green Nepal has been promoted to construct biogas plants at local level.
B. Sustainable Agriculture Development:
Nepal is developing country with an agricultural economy. The main occupation of Nepal is agriculture. About 80% of people are involved in as their occupation. Agriculture is the base of Nepalese people and for Nepal. However, farmers are doing agriculture in traditional way and using excessive chemicals to increase production. It has been increasing their cost of production and reducing their profit margin. Therefore, LGN intervenes with an integrated approach to convert the chemical laden agriculture to environment friendly sustainable agriculture. Accordingly, the major components are conceived to be sustainable agriculture through IPM and organic based good agriculture practices. Similarly, we focused on introducing appropriate technology and develop small infrastructure such as poly house construction, irrigation facilities development for the benefit of the farmers. Likewise; marketing promotion and capacity development of the farmers are other parts of this approach. At the same way, LGN intervenes to the farmer on sustainable livestock through good management practices (GMP), fodder management, cattle shed improvement.
LGN aims to increase productivity of small farmers land is integrated approach which will finally help farmers achieve sustainable livelihood. There is always a question that how to sustain livelihood of the subsistent farmers in the hills. The answer to this is the integrated approach or in other words integrated development. The small farmers land should be managed with integrated way so that the per unit productivity of the land yielded higher. Besides, LGN adopts a strategy of maximum utilization of local resources to create alternative means of chemical fertilizer and pesticides by using the local people.
C. Education & Capacity Development:
Education is the major foundation of social development. It is impossible that the development and prosperity cannot take place without the development of education. Therefore, the Love Green Nepal has been emphasizing education development through two major programs. The one is physical infrastructure development of the public school and the other is scholarship and capacity development programs for the girl students. LGN has been focusing on construction of public school buildings, which has insufficient physical infrastructure to run daily classes. So far, construction of classrooms, furniture arrangement, drinking water and construction of toilets has been completed in 52 schools in different districts of Nepal. Similarly, LGN scholarship and capacity development program provides financial and capacity development trainings for the girl students belonging to the marginalized and low income family group of Kavrepalanchok District of Nepal.
D. Knowledge Dissemination and Farm Stay Program:
Love Green Nepal has established up-land sustainable agriculture demonstration farm in Ward No. 2 of Panchkhal Municipality, Kavre. Its main objective is to demonstrate the up-land integrated sustainable agriculture in mid-hill reason of Nepal. In this farm, we provide IPM and organic based sustainable agriculture and sustainable livestock farming training with residence facility. The facility can accommodate 15 persons at a time. Local and foreign guests visits our farm to observe our practices and exchange experiences.
Similarly, in ward no. 6 of this Municipality, there is nursery for multi-purpose plants production, training buildings, and community information and communication technology center. In this place, we provide various trainings to the farmers, women and school girls.
E. Small Community Infrastructure Development:
Love Green Nepal supports to construct women’s cooperative buildings for conducting various training program such as capacity building, skills development, anti-violence against women, gender discrimination, health related trainings and involving them in cooperative society for their economic empowerment. Similarly, it has been assisting in irrigation management and drinking water management.
